Democrat Sees Votes For Healthcare Reform
| Healthcare Reform - Healthcare Reform |
Democrats in the House of Representatives will have enough votes to pass President Barack Obama's healthcare reform legislation, a member of the Democratic leadership said.
Earlier on the program, the director of the White House Office of healthcare reform said that she believes "we will have the votes to pass" the measure.
But Nancy-Ann DeParle said she did not know whether majority Democrats would attempt a procedural move, known as reconciliation, to push the proposal through the House and Senate without Republican support.
"We're not talking about changing the rules here," DeParle said. "All the president is talking about is do we need to address this problem and does it make sense to have a simple up or down vote."
