Healthcare Reform - Healthcare Reform

The national debate over rising health insurance premiums of healthcare reform will put feet on the street as locals demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the ever-increasing cost of healthcare in US.

Organizing for America, a reborn version of the Obama for America campaign committee, will hold demonstrations in Fallbrook and in Oceanside to show their support for healthcare reform. Demonstrations are also planned in the Riverside County communities of Hemet and San Jacinto.

Oceanside rally organizer Rolph vom Dorp said the idea is to show there is fundamental support for healthcare reform, especially when it comes to making it more affordable and accessible.

"I personally believe the only way we're going to secure a decent healthcare reform is through grass-roots opinion," vom Dorp said.

Joseph Crews, president of Fallbrook's Democratic club, said he plans to lead one of the Fallbrook rallies. Though the Obama Administration has recently proposed new legislation that would allow the federal government to cap rate increases, Crews said he is not so sure that caps are the answer.

He said he would personally prefer if Congress threw away the entire healthcare reform bill and started over with three simple goals: Open Medicare to everyone age 50 and older; forbid insurance companies from denying coverage to those with pre-existing conditions; and allow health insurance to be sold across state lines to increase competition.
