Healthcare Reform Debate on Abortion Coverage

Healthcare Reform - Healthcare Reform

The senate begins the second week of debate on the healthcare reform bill. A major controversy being tackled this week. There are many debates on abortion coverage.

Lawmakers worked through the weekend. There are major obstacles threatening to derail the overhaul.  An amendment placing restrictions on abortion coverage. Fox news correspondent Craig Boswell has more from Washington.Frustrations are beginning to show on the senate floor as lawmakers continue to debate the nearly 850 billion dollar healthcare reform bill.KERRY says: "I'd like to take a moment to have a discussion. I'd ask my colleague--"

"The proposed amendment would also ban abortion services in any so-called public option... Nelson says he will not support overall reform without the abortion language. It's language similar to an amendment which already passed the house.THUNE says: "The GOP will support that amendment, the question is can we get to 60, in doubt.''In doubt, because not all democrats agree with nelson's abortion amendment... They say it goes too far and if adopted they would turn away from the entire bill.

STABENOW says: "The Nelson amendment takes us back, it takes away options on health care coverage."Even if the abortion language is added..gop leaders remain unanimously opposed to the overhaul.HATCH says: "What they are trying to do is push everyone into Medicare and Medicaid and push a single payer system."The majority leader says the Senate will continue to work late nights this week and more than likely work through the upcoming weekend too.In Washington Craig Boswell FOX News."
