Healthcare Reform Returns To White House
| Healthcare Reform - Healthcare Reform |
Obama is putting out his plan ahead of a meeting with members of Congress on healthcare reform and democrats have said they would get healthcare reform to the president's desk within a few months.
The White House said Obama would seek governmental power to stop large rate increases levied by insurance companies. Bills passed by the House of Representatives and Senate have significant differences. Obama's plan may bridge or otherwise erase those differences. Other aspects were withheld ahead of Obama's announcement.
Insurance cost control is seen as an important angle of overall healthcare reform and the White House seems to be putting attention on a recent 39 percent premium increase announced by Anthem Blue Cross in California, which has about 700,000 customers.
Obama had let congressional leaders write healthcare reform and was criticized for not giving more details of his own desires on the issue. His planned announcement appears to be a step to address that.
