U.S. Rep. Harry Teague said that he will vote against the healthcare reform bill proposed by President Obama expected to come up for a vote in the U.S. House soon.
“I had hoped to have a chance to vote on a bill that provided affordable health care options to all American families, but after reviewing the final healthcare reform proposal, I do not believe that the bill does enough to contain costs and it definitely does not do enough to rein in the out of control insurance companies that are driving up healthcare costs in this country,” Teague said in a statement.
Earlier this week the Congressional Budget Office estimated that the healthcare reform bill would reduce the federal deficit by $138 billion in the first decade and $1.3 trillion in the second ten years.
New Mexico’s other two Representatives are considered likely yes votes on the healthcare reform legislation. A handful of Democrats who voted no against House’s version of a healthcare reform bill announced that they would vote for this version. Teague voted no against the House version of healthcare reform last year.
