High-Field Open MRI Technology Comes to Bay Area, California

Company News - Hitachi Medical Systems America, Inc.

Valley Radiology Imaging installed high-field open MRI technology, the Hitachi Oasis, in the South Bay Area of Northern California.

Valley Radiology Imaging (VRI), a subsidiary of RadNet Management, Inc., has recently installed high-field open MRI technology, the Hitachi Oasis, in the South Bay Area of Northern California. The Oasis system will offer the medical community a new open MRI alternative with high-field strength performance for patients who have had challenges tolerating exams in the traditional closed-type MRI units.

The new Oasis is the most powerful open MRI available today and combines a comfortable patient experience with powerful technology to make imaging procedures as quick and smooth as possible. The Oasis is further enhanced by an array of anatomically specific receiver coils that allow advanced imaging applications ranging from vascular to orthopedic to women's health.

"The 1.2T Hitachi Oasis Open MRI enables us to image claustrophobic patients and patients up to 660 lbs with image quality comparable to our 1.5 T units. Our referring physicians recognize and specifically request this scanner. We get referrals from across the Bay Area from physicians who need the image quality and pulse sequences that only our open high-field MRI can provide," says Dr. Michael Nguyen, Medical Director, Los Gatos VRI Center. He adds, "This scanner also possesses the newest pulse sequences for advanced musculoskeletal, neurological, and body imaging, as well as RADAR to reduce motion artifact."

"We at Valley Radiology have been very pleased with the image quality and versatility of our Oasis MRI system," says Dr. Maria Matsumoto, President of Valley Radiology Medical Associates (VRMA). "It is very comfortable for our patients, and it is of particular benefit for those who are claustrophobic, enabling them to feel at ease."

"We are very excited to build our relationship with VRI and are pleased that the Oasis is the first high-field open MRI system in the California Bay Area," said Sheldon Schaffer, Vice President and General Manager MR & CT, Hitachi.
