Karos Health and Client Outlook announce their collaboration to advance diagnostic imaging information sharing.

Karos’ Rialto clinical information exchange solution will feature Client Outlook’s advanced image viewing technology, further supporting collaboration between health professionals as they share medical images.

Rialto is an open, standards-based software solution that establishes clinical information exchange networks to supply healthcare professionals with relevant patient information at the point of care, anytime, anywhere. Information published in the Rialto network can be accessed and displayed using Rialto Navigator, an open standards based, ultra-thin web-based viewing environment.

Access to complete patient information, including diagnostic images
Primary care practices, community health centres, or satellite hospitals can use Navigator to access patient information related to procedures done at publishing health institutions such as imaging centres, tertiary hospitals, or speciality clinics. Clinicians dealing with complex patients’ issues addressed by multiple providers have immediate access to orders, prescriptions, clinical reports, medical summaries, diagnostic images, and all data that comprises the complete patient health record.

Navigator connects to the Rialto exchange network, where the intelligence of user authentication, security, consent, and data access reside, enabling clinicians to discover all patient health information in the Rialto network, independent of their storage location and data format. Navigator can retrieve and display all types of clinical data, such as text or PDF documents, HL7 CDA documents, as well as DICOM images.

IHE Integration Profiles empower diagnostic imaging viewing
Rialto Navigator is based on the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE®) technical framework and acts as a Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing (XDS) Document Consumer and Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing for Imaging (XDS-I) Imaging Document Consumer. The XDS-I profile is based on DICOM, the industry standard used to manage and exchange diagnostic imaging documents, and empowers Navigator to bring image viewing outside of the radiology departments and imaging centres.

Navigator’s DICOM viewing will leverage advanced technology from Client Outlook. "Client Outlook’s technology enriches Navigator’s image viewing capabilities by providing fast access to imaging results, with a zero-footprint for IT Administrators" said Rick Stroobosscher, President of Karos Health. Navigator’s DICOM viewer supports image manipulation and processing, effectively assisting clinicians as they make decisions based on their patient’s diagnostic imaging results.
