MEDHOST Reaches Milestone With More Than 130 Hospitals Leveraging CPOE
| Company News - MEDHOST, Inc. |
MEDHOST announced that it has reached a CPOE usage milestone with more than 130 Customers successfully employing the solution to streamline the ordering process and enhance patient safety.
MEDHOST’s easy to use, one-touch Order Entry solution uses familiar workflow and minimal prompting to enable bedside physician order placement. Customers cite MEDHOST’s intuitive user interface as the driver of high clinician adoption, and because clinicians actually use the system, hospitals reap the full workflow, communication, patient safety and financial benefits of the robust MEDHOST solution.
Unlike some CPOE systems, MEDHOST’s Order Entry solution is fully electronic because it integrates with all ancillary services including lab and radiology. When a physician enters an order in MEDHOST at the patient’s bedside, it flows immediately to the department responsible for performing the service. This comprehensive ordering process eliminates additional steps such as ED staff re-entering orders, and it brings a new level of efficiency to already busy EDs.
“We have more than 88,000 visits each year, so there’s no time for inefficiency. MEDHOST has transformed our ED in many ways, but most important, the system has revolutionized how we care for patients,” said Dr. John DiPasquale, co-director of the department of emergency medicine at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, Texas. “I complete nearly 90 percent of my charts and orders at the bedside, which means that I am spending exponentially more time with my patients. I’m more available to answer their questions and ease any concerns, and this greatly impacts their experience and satisfaction.”
CPOE is known to reduce turnaround times and repeated tests, deliver cost savings, and most important, decrease medical errors and adverse drug events. But despite the life-saving benefits of this technology, The Leapfrog Group found that only 7 percent of hospitals surveyed in 2008 fully met Leapfrog’s medication error prevention (CPOE) standards.
Since its inception, MEDHOST has focused on continually improving the user experience so that MEDHOST solutions work with the user’s needs, not against them; as a result, MEDHOST continues to experience high levels of adoption and Customer satisfaction.
“Physician adoption is the best barometer of usability, and all MEDHOST Customers cite high adoption rates with many recognizing 100 percent compliance. This underscores the value of MEDHOST’s focus on making our EDIS easy to use,” said Craig Herrod, president and CEO of MEDHOST. “The failure of healthcare IT is that systems are usually designed for the back end rather than for the user which is what makes MEDHOST so different. While we are proud to reach this CPOE milestone, it is more satisfying to know that our Customers are delivering safer and more efficient care to their patients.”
MEDHOST currently serves more than 170 facilities, including Catholic Healthcare West in California, Catholic Health System in New York, Tenet Healthcare Corporation and several academic facilities across the U.S. MEDHOST is the preferred EDIS provider of VHA Inc., a national cooperative serving more than 2,400 not for profit healthcare organizations. MEDHOST easily integrates with leading hospital information systems, including MEDITECH, Cerner, Siemens and McKesson.
