MEDICA 2010: Healthy Registrations and Hopeful Medical Technology Industry

Medical Conferences News - MEDICA 2010

MEDICA 2010 , World Forum for Medicine - International Trade Fair and Congress will take place from 17th - 20th November 2010, Dusseldorf, Germany.

Advance registrations for MEDICA 2010 , World Forum for Medicine - International Trade Fair and Congress are a clear sign of optimism in the medical technology industry. The number of exhibitors at the world's largest medical trade fair has already seen a significant increase in comparison to last year, with over 4,000 exhibitors and about 115,000 square metres of exhibition space already booked.

“Demand has been slow in the North American and European medical technology markets of late, but exports are bouncing back now, especially for German manufacturers, and many companies take advantage of MEDICA as an opportunity to intensify contacts. MEDICA is thus, once again, an outstanding platform for intercontinental business and a global hub“, explained Horst Giesen, a project leader at Messe Düsseldorf.

Following German exhibitors, the largest proportion of space at MEDICA 2010 is accounted for by exhibitors from Italy, China, the United Kingdom, the USA and France. The number of regular exhibitors, both from Germany and abroad, including leading innovators such as Siemens, Getinge-MAQUET, the MMM Group, Karl Storz and Systema, for example, has remained high.

Key topics at MEDICA 2010 include:
  • Electromedicine/medical technology
  • Laboratory technology/diagnostics
  • Physiotherapy/orthopaedic technology
  • Medical products (devices and consumables)
  • Information and communication technology
  • Medical furniture and furnishings
The trade fair will once again feature the established themed areas such as MEDICA MEDIA ( telemedicine / medical IT), MEDICA VISION (the innovation forum for the research institutes) and the physiotherapy forum.

Key topics at the MEDICA Congress include:

  • Lectures on major common diseases such as cancer
  • Cardiovascular disease and age-related diseases as well as advanced training courses on subjects such as sonography
  • Emergency medicine and endoscopy
CURAC annual conference to be held as part of MEDICA for the first time
The German Society for Computer and Robotic Assisted Surgery (CURAC) will hold its 9th annual conference, CURAC2010, from 18 - 19 November, the first time that it will have been held as part of the MEDICA Congress. The main focus of this conference will be on topics such as surgical simulation, computer-aided interventional radiology, ergonomic optimisation of operating theatres, multimodal operation planning and intraoperative measuring techniques. Another point it will focus on will be the potential for commercialisation through cooperation with industry. By holding its conference at the world's largest medical trade fair for medical technology, CURAC hopes to expand interdisciplinary interaction between scientists, developers and users in this young and highly innovative field.

Another first at the MEDICA Congress will be the “1st AiF user’s forum on medical technology and implants – wound dressings“, a one-day event to take place on 18 November featuring lectures by representatives from industry, science and medicine on medical technology products (for example, for skin and tissue grafts or for specialised wound care).

MEDICA 2010 will also host the 33rd German Hospital Conference, the leading event for decision makers in hospital management.

In parallel to MEDICA 2010 , COMPAMED 2010, which has also seen a very healthy number of registrations, will take place in halls 8a and 8b, featuring over 500 exhibitors (from 17 – 19 November), presenting novel solutions and services for supplies to medical manufacturing, including micro system technology, nanotechnology and novel materials as well as packaging and services.
