MEDecision Poised to Capitalize on Health Care Reform Movement

MEDecision, Inc., a leading provider of collaborative health care management solutions, announced that it has appointed company President and Chief Operating Officer Scott A. Storrer to the position of president and CEO. Storrer, 42, will replace the company’s founder and current CEO David St.Clair, who will retire effective December 31 following two decades of building MEDecision into a highly-regarded and successful health information technology organization. St.Clair will remain on MEDecision’s board of directors for the next year.

The move formally recognizes Storrer’s transition from chief operating officer to CEO, an evolution that has been planned and prepared for since he joined the company in 2008. MEDecision is now positioned to capitalize on the opportunities rising from health care reform by executing on Storrer’s strategy to deliver next-generation health care solutions based on Alineo, MEDecision’s collaborative health care management platform, and Nexalign, the company’s advanced health information exchange service.

During the past year, Storrer has led the company to milestones that have set the stage for the company’s meaningful growth, including:

  • Growing MEDecision’s business this year in a down economy
  • Assembling a highly credentialed team of senior executives and managers from such organizations as Capital One, CIGNA, Deloitte, GE Healthcare, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, IBM, Landacorp, Siemens Medical and United Health Group
  • Acquiring HxTechnologies
  • Ranking as one of the Best Places to Work in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare Magazine and one of the Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania by the Central Penn Business Journal
  • Extending the functionality of MEDecision technologies through in-house development and through strategic partnerships with Emmi Solutions and Availity
  • Planning for meaningful growth over the next five years as the health IT industry mobilizes to support President Obama’s health care reform initiatives

“Since the acquisition by Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) one year ago, MEDecision has flourished on all fronts and continues to be the leader in collaborative health care management,” said Colleen Reitan, chairperson of the board for MEDecision and chief operating officer of HCSC. “That success can be directly attributed to Scott spearheading operations since the acquisition and rounding out the company’s A-team of senior executives and managers. Now, MEDecision is ready for its next phase of growth with Scott at the helm as CEO.”

“David St.Clair has set a very high standard for innovation across the health care IT industry over the past two decades, especially with regard to electronic health records with timely, actionable information,” said Storrer. “As the momentum around health care reform continues to grow, MEDecision is well-positioned to build on this legacy of innovation by delivering critical products and services that will aid payers and providers in offering patients the best care possible.”

While Storrer’s title changes, his duties remain largely the same. As president and CEO, he will be responsible for the company’s day-to-day operations and performance as well as long-term vision and strategies.

“MEDecision has continued to evolve over the years, championing new solutions to meet the changing needs in healthcare IT,” said St.Clair. “This executive transition is the latest evolution of the company, one that positions MEDecision for its next stage of growth. I leave confident that MEDecision and our committed employees are in great hands with the new leadership team and will continue to guide the health care IT industry into the future.”
