MEDecision EHRs Meet Obama’s $19B Health Care IT Challenge

Company News - MEDecision, Inc
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Demands Real-Time Actionable Information Found in Company’s Electronic Health Records; Nexalign to Add More Real-Time Data
  • One in every six people in the U.S. with health insurance is insured or managed by a MEDecision customer
  • Market-leading Clinical Summaries aggregate and analyze patient, provider, and payer data to render actionable information for treatment plans and to identify gaps in care
  • Industry-first, electronic delivery of payer-based, patient clinical summaries to an emergency room
MEDecision, Inc., a leading provider of collaborative health care management solutions, today announced that it meets President Obama’s $19 billion health care IT challenge with the electronic health records (EHRs) generated by Nexalign, the company’s collaborative health care information exchange service.

With health care reform and cost reduction as central tenets, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 demands the real-time, actionable information available today in Nexalign Clinical Summaries. MEDecision also announced imminent enhancements that will fortify Nexalign with new real-time data sources and a new partner program designed to make MEDecision EHR data and analytics available in third-party electronic medical records.

“Meaningful, high-quality EHRs are the cornerstone of the health care initiatives found in the economic stimulus plan,” said MEDecision President and Chief Operating Officer Scott A. Storrer. “We’ve spent the past 20 years cultivating the expertise and building the systems needed to create and deliver EHRs that provide a real-time, 360-degree view of a patient’s medical history and information. We deliver those cornerstone EHRs today, and we’ll continue to refine them for the future.”

Nexalign Today and Tomorrow

Nexalign fosters better clinical decisions, better health outcomes, and reduced costs by providing a simplified and smart way for health care payers, patients, physicians and other care providers to access and exchange health information, while meeting HIPAA compliance and security standards. Designed around clinical summaries — clinically validated, payer-based electronic health records — Nexalign’s multichannel, interoperable design enables two-way information exchange among multiple sources, which is intended to provide richer, more accurate and complete information at the point of care.

This year, MEDecision will augment Nexalign with:
  • real-time access to health care providers’ electronic medical record systems;
  • real-time access to laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, and other ancillary data;
  • real-time information exchange to support the Patient Centered Medical Home model of care; and
  • enhanced clinical analytics to enable more accurate identification of gaps in care, clinical summaries and treatment plans.
Nexalign is the latest product of MEDecision’s long-standing vision for collaborative health care management solutions that improve the quality and affordability of care. David St. Clair, founder of MEDecision, remains a constant visionary for the company and a passionate evangelist for health care in America. The company’s role as a leader in health care today is reaffirmed by:
  • one in every six people in the U.S. with health insurance is insured or managed by a MEDecision customer;
  • market-leading Clinical Summaries aggregate and analyze patient, provider, and payer data to render actionable information for treatment plans and to identify gaps in care; and
  • industry-first, electronic delivery of payer-based, patient clinical summaries to an emergency room.
Storrer said, “President Obama sees electronic health records as a way to save billions of dollars, thousands of jobs, and countless lives. And he’s given the health care industry a five-year deadline to make America’s medical records electronic. Now is the time for the health care industry to take swift, decisive action to that end. MEDecision is already moving in that direction with proven systems to create those records today.”
