Aurorabiopsy -- the first truly automated and truly integrated MR-guided biopsy technology on the Aurora Breast MRI System

Aurora Imaging Technology unveils powerful integrated technology to further complement Aurora® 1.5 Tesla Dedicated Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) System's commitment to totally dedicated breast MRI.

Just one year after commercializing the 3-D Bilateral SpiralRODEOTM image acquisition and fat suppression technique on the Aurora® 1.5 Tesla Dedicated Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) System, Aurora Imaging Technology unveils powerful integrated technology to further complement the system's commitment to totally dedicated breast MRI.

AuroraBIOPSYTM is the first completely automated and fully integrated MR-guided biopsy technology available on the market. AuroraBIOPSY is exclusive to the Aurora Breast MRI System, which will be demonstrated by leading breast imaging specialists at this year's Radiological Society of North America's (RSNA) annual meeting in Chicago.

Since the Aurora System was designed specifically with a woman's anatomy in mind, the patient table provides the physician with the largest access area to the breasts for both medial and lateral approaches. It allows fast, accurate targeting and needle placement coordinated with the integrated scan console and image acquisition software displayed on a computer screen.  Unlike the more commonly used manual methods which allow for human error, with the AuroraBIOPSY, physicians no longer need to perform manual calculations and then count grid squares to determine needle placement.

"AuroraBIOPSY now has made MRI-guided biopsy a less complicated task," said Rebecca G. Stough, M.D., clinical director, Breast MRI of Oklahoma, LLC and radiologic director, Mercy Women's Center. "Biopsy on the Aurora System is so easy. I can simply click on the lesion displayed on the monitor, click on the marker and the integrated stereotactic guidance system directs the needle to precisely where it needs to be ready for the biopsy procedure.

"AuroraBIOPSY is accurate and convenient, which not only helps clinicians have a more efficient practice, but provides patients will minimal stress and increased comfort, Dr. Stough added."

The advantages of AuroraBIOPSY are further demonstrated through its ability to target multiple lesions in the same breast or both breasts in a single procedure. The system features breast stabilization paddles for wide access to sample all breasts sizes, small or large, and are inclusive to the Aurora System's integrated package. The AuroraBIOPSY also includes a needle guidance procedure which easily accommodates all current core biopsy or vacuum-assisted biopsy devices on the market today.

"Aurora is dedicated to providing superior diagnostic breast imaging tools for physicians and patients," said Olivia Ho Cheng, president and chief executive officer, Aurora. "We are proud to lead the way in advancing breast imaging and AuroraBIOPSY certainly adds to Aurora's complete technology offering as the breast center solution for interventional procedures."
