Compact MRI Using Proprietary Aspect's Permanent Magnet Technology

Radiology News

A new desktop, compact magnetic resonance imaging ( MRI ) system for preclinical & Molecular Imaging using proprietary permanent magnet technology from Aspect Magnet Technologies Ltd. is being introduced at World Molecular Imaging Congress (WMIC) in Kyoto.

The compact system, called Icon, is the result of a partnership announced between Aspect and Bruker Corporation at last year’s WMIC to develop an MRI system specifically for the needs and work environment of preclinical researchers.

The compact 1 Tesla system gives researchers a practical, easy-to-use, and easy-to-site instrument for routine preclinical MRI and molecular imaging that can be located directly in their labs and behind the animal barrier. The internally shielded Icon system has zero magnetic fringe field enabling safe location of the instrument in any facility. No additional external magnetic or RF shielding is required. Aspect’s proprietary gradient system is integrated into the magnet, enabling high performance with silent whisper operation.

Aspect’s animal handling system incorporated into the Icon machine helps streamline preparation and improve ease of use for any level of operator.

“We’re pleased that our work with Bruker has resulted in this imaging option that gives researchers preclinical MRI information on demand behind the animal barrier for everyday use,” said Uri Rapoport, founder and chief executive officer of Aspect. “We know that these next generation systems are important tools to help advance scientific discovery by accelerating research and expanding horizons for completely new ideas and discovery.”

The Icon system is being manufactured, sold and distributed through Bruker.
