Firelands Regional Medical Center recently acquired one of the highest-resolution magnetic resonance imaging scanners available, giving physicians and patients access to state-of-the-art diagnostic services.

The new MRI system enables faster, higher-resolution scans and potentially more accurate diagnoses. It also allows Firelands to provide breast MRI and MRI-guided breast biopsies.

For patients, the newly renovated space is more conveniently located, near the outpatient services waiting area.

Hospital officials said the new scanner's patient-friendly design offers a more comfortable and less claustrophobic experience.

MRI allows doctors to see inside the body. Because of the level of detail it provides, the new Firelands MRI can assist radiologists and physicians in earlier diagnoses of medical conditions including brain and nervous system disorders, musculoskeletal disorders and organ disease.

Firelands Regional Medical Center is designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology, making it the only facility in the five-county area and one of only 16 in Ohio to receive the designation.
