New MRI at Sudbury Regional Hospital

Radiology News

Patient care at the Hôpital régional de Sudbury Regional Hospital (HRSRH) has taken a leap forward with the addition of a state-of-the-art, 16 Channel, Magnetic Resonance Imaging ( MRI ) machine.

“One of the anticipated benefits of one-site was the opportunity for technological advancement in our medical and diagnostic equipment, and we are already seeing this realized to the benefit of our patients,” states HRSRH Senior Vice-President Joe Pilon.

At a total cost of $3 million, the MRI represents a very significant capital investment for the HRSRH. According to Dr. Jason Ashley, a radiologist at the HRSRH, the machine represents great value for money, not only for its necessity, but for its advantages. “This machine is designed and programmed to provide the optimal way to scan each specific area of the body a physician may want to look at – we can see more with greater clarity, meaning we can make diagnoses with greater accuracy,” says Dr. Ashley.

The MRI is designed to be upgradeable as new system enhancements become available, and also has other innovative features such as a detachable table, allowing MRI staff to prepare one patient while scanning another, which has helped improve efficiency by 20%.

“Everything was taken into account in choosing this particular machine. We are pleased with the results we have seen thus far and are confident that this investment will keep us technologically current well into the foreseeable future,” enthused Pilon.
