The W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center will take delivery Monday of a new $2.2 million magnetic resonance imaging ( MRI ) machine.

The Siemens Avanto 1.5t MRI unit will enhance imaging capabilities at the facility, which currently has one fixed MRI, a 64 slice computed tomography (CT) unit with cardiac package, a 16 slice CT, dual energy x-ray absorption unit, nuclear medicine cameras, a digital mammography unit and other diagnostic imaging equipment.

"The new MRI machine incorporates the latest technology with outstanding image quality to help identify different disease processes in our veterans," said Dr. Corrine Deurdulian, chief of imaging services.

The unit will provide increased efficiency in performing MRI exams to augment the timely care of their patients. They are very proud that the acquisition of this cutting edge imaging equipment will better serve their veterans."
