Cancer Center Recieves Fund For Free MAmmograms

Radiology News - Mammography

MammographyThe June E. Nylen Cancer Center received a contribution of $100,000 from Mark & Mary Ellen Nylen to launch a public awareness campaign to encourage women to obtain digital mammograms at no charge.

"Fight Like a Girl", the public awareness campaign, targets women age 40 to 50 who cannot afford mammograms. Medical studies show digital mammography images are clearer in women under 50 when breast tissue is denser and more helpful for women right before and after menopause. Clearer images can help physicians detect breast cancer earlier.

The cancer center also offers financial support for mammograms through its SOS: Serving Our Sisters - free mammogram program. Susan G. Komen for the Cure Siouxland, individual donors, clubs and organizations from around Siouxland help fund the SOS program.
