Foundation Provides Grants For Breast Cancer Screening
| Radiology News - Mammography |
A San Diego foundation has donated more than half a million dollars to local clinics and health centers for breast cancer screening and patient support.
The local affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has given $540 thousand to thirteen local clinics and health centers to provide free breast cancer screening and diagnosis, and financial support for low-income women with breast cancer.
Laura Farmer Sherman is the executive director of the affiliate. She said the money is meant to replace state funds that were eliminated from the budget. She added that many women can no longer afford mammograms.
"We're hearing from more and more women who know they're supposed to get a mammogram, because they have been in the habit, but they lost their job and their insurance," said Sherman.
