Marshfield Clinic Unveils Mobile Mammography Unit

Radiology News - Mammography

MammographyMarshfield Clinic introduced their new mobile Mammography unit and running this week.

Mobile imaging manager Myron Gadtke says the new mobile mammography unit serves several purposes, not the least of which is getting out to rural areas of the state and helping women get important mammograms and bone density screenings without having to drive out to a fixed unit at a clinic.

Gadtke says that can help women who are reluctant to take a half or full day away from work to spend 4 hours getting to a facility to get screened. The new mobile unit can get them in and out and back to work in 40 minutes. The unit is also used at rural Marshfield Clinic locations that don't have their own mammography unit on site.

Radiology director Gene Santilli says one of the most important features of the truck is that it can wirelessly connect with the Marshfield Clinic network, and upload x-ray s and screenings in real time so that radiologists back home can take a look at the results and not have to leave their offices. And since the whole process is digital now, there's no need to actually wait for x-ray s to develop before they're ready.
