Medicalis announced that it has reached an agreement to provide clinical decision support to physicians in a Manitoba Initiative
Medicalis Corporation, a leading provider of diagnostic imaging Clinical Decision Support for Diagnostic Imaging (CDS-DI) solutions, announced that it has reached an agreement to provide clinical decision support to physicians in a Manitoba Initiative. In partnership with Health Canada, Manitoba Health and Healthy Living, and the Canadian Association of Radiologists, Medicalis will provide Clinical Decision Support and Report Outcome solutions to physicians in Manitoba. Building on its success with other Canadian projects in Manitoba and in Nova Scotia, Medicalis will embed Clinical Decision Support tools directly into the physician’s EMR application to deliver advanced clinical services seamlessly at the point of physician ordering.
Continuous advances in diagnostic imaging procedures such as CT, MR and PET, have made it increasingly difficult for physicians to stay current with changing best practices. This has led to an environment where 7- 10% of diagnostic imaging procedures ordered are unhelpful, where a different procedure, or where no testing at all would be clinically preferable. Medicalis’ Decision Support solutions assist physicians only if and when there are alternative tests they should be considering for the patient condition.
Medicalis’ Decision Support Solutions are designed to plug into EMRs and CPOEs using advanced Web-Services to seamlessly delivery clinically supportive advice while a physician is ordering a test. The physician’s experience is similar to prescription-drug databases currently embedded into the ordering workflow of EMRs. Physicians place diagnostic imaging orders in the same way that they always have and only if there are alternative tests to consider, the EMR will seamlessly present these options. This process delivers the evidence-based practices from leading diagnostic imaging and imaging sources while the physician is considering tests for their patient. The seamless experience eliminates the interruption required to reference text books or online websites.
Medicals Analytics with report outcomes provides physicians with important feedback on the outcomes of their diagnostic imaging procedures. When coupled with Decision Assist, this provides previously unattainable feedback to physicians about the efficacy of their diagnostic imaging ordering to diagnose their patients. This combination of providing advanced clinical feedback from published guidelines as well as from physician’s own exam outcomes delivers the information physicians need to make better decisions for their patients.
