Medtronic Announces Grand Opening of Newark/Elizabeth, NJ Distribution Center

Medtronic announced the grand opening of its new distribution center in Elizabeth, NJ.
Medtronic , Inc., the world’s leading medical technology company, announced the grand opening of its new distribution center in Elizabeth, NJ. Located next to Newark Liberty International Airport, the facility is part of Medtronic’s strategic initiative to streamline its distribution network to better serve customers.
The distribution center will be responsible for processing customer orders for the Spine, Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management, Cardio Vascular, and Neuromodulation businesses at Medtronic.
The opening of the facility, which has led to the creation of 100 jobs in the Elizabeth/Newark area, will service Medtronic customers along the East Coast as well as Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan. The company also has a distribution center in Memphis, Tenn. to serve Midwest customers, and will be opening a California-based distribution center in the coming months to serve Western state customers.
“ Medtronic ’s three regional hubs are strategically located adjacent to major airports, which allow us to improve customer service, facilitate business continuity, support our continued growth and save transportation costs,” said Mitch Parrish, vice president of global supply chain operations at Medtronic. “Importantly, our ability to quickly deliver our products to customers helps us fulfill the Medtronic Mission of alleviating pain, restoring health and extending life.”
Medtronic has partnered with Exel, part of the DHL Supply Chain company, to start up the new distribution center. Exel’s Life Sciences team brings industry expertise, a continuous improvement methodology, and a focus on patient service to the collaborative project. “Exel and our associates understand the significance and importance of every order we handle,” said Ken Novacich, senior director of operations for Exel.
