NEC enhances software for medical displays

Company News - NEC Display Solutions
With the new Version 2.1.04 of the GammaCompMD Administrator Suite, NEC Display Solutions is launching an enhanced quality assurance software solution for its medical displays. With the new Version 2.1.04 of the GammaCompMD Administrator Suite, NEC Display Solutions is launching an enhanced quality assurance software solution for its medical displays. The new version now provides DICOM calibration support for the NEC MD205MG - a 21-inch greyscale display with 5-megapixel resolution suitable for mammography - and the NEC MDview262 - a 26-inch colour screen for secondary diagnostic imaging and review of radiology images. Significant improvements to the algorithms used to calibrate the white point of all NEC MD and MDview displays has led to a 75 per cent reduction in calibration time.

The new software version also provides an effective improvement in the measurement of diffuse luminance enabling the ambient light conditions to be taken into account during calibration, resulting in an even more accurate calibration. The ability to in-field colour match NEC MD and MDview displays for use in dual display systems where comparative viewing is required has also been improved, and a facility has been added for calibrating the DICOM curves. This allows for consistent imaging across all NEC medical displays.

An important requirement for the use of digital monitors in radiology is a uniform display quality, which remains constant over the whole period of use. The NEC GammaCompMD Administrator Suite ensures that these conditions are met. The Suite is made up of several software products, which can be used depending upon the particular requirements. GammaCompMD Server is used for the remote quality assurance of diagnostics imaging and review displays over the network, and GammaCompMD Client for installation on individual imaging and review stations.

GammaCompMD server

For larger hospitals or hospital associations with a number of imaging and review stations in RIS/PACS applications, NEC Display Solutions offers a highly scalable solution in the form of the GammaCompMD Server. This network concept uses the SNMPc network management software, which is based on the SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). A special server operating system is not required. The GammaCompMD Server enables all the connected medical displays to be monitored from one computer. This includes the interrogation of all status messages and the centralised scheduling of pending consistency checks. In this way, the testing prescribed by the legislator can be organised with ease.

GammaCompMD administrator suite

The GammaCompMD Administrator Suite provides medical institutions with an effective tool for continuously monitoring all image display units of the NEC MD and MDview ranges that are in operation. This enables them to respond quickly to possible deviations from the DICOM Part 14 standard, to check and document the correct setting of all monitors at a moment's notice, and to carry out the prescribed AAPM tests cost effectively and at the appropriate time.

Availability

GammaCompMD Administrator Suite will be supplied on DVD with all MD Series systems and all MDview displays with immediate effect. Customers who have already registered with the NEC Medical Help Desk will be sent the new version of the GammaCompMD Administrator Suite.
