Discussion Will Highlight the Use of Technology to Enable Payment Reform and Improved Care Coordination

NaviNet , America’s largest real-time healthcare communications network, announced that Thomas G. Morrison, co-founder and chief strategy officer, will speak at World Research Group’s 2nd Annual Healthcare Payment Solutions Summit & Expo, held in Chicago, Illinois, July 26-28, 2010. As the healthcare industry continues to struggle with the challenges of cost and quality practice management, the need for improved care coordination to prevent disease, reduce inefficiencies, enhance the patient experience and improve health outcomes has become increasingly apparent. Morrison will discuss how care coordination can be enhanced by the adoption of payment reform and new payment methodologies, and the enabling role that healthcare IT plays in driving adoption and change.

Morrison, a member of DMAA: The Care Continuum Alliance and the Clinical Groupware Collaborative, joins a panel of industry experts that will explore the development of programs that incent providers and payers to collaborate and take a disease management-approach to treating some of the nation’s most costly and debilitating chronic conditions. Payment methodologies are evolving to encourage this collaborative approach, and healthcare IT and health data exchange are important in implementing many of these methodologies. Complete electronic medical record ( EMR ) systems can play a role, but to enact near-term change it is also important to “meet providers where they are” and address the needs of providers who have not yet adopted EMR s. Panelists will provide actionable steps that the healthcare industry and the government can take now to support change, ultimately creating the most efficient and effective healthcare environment for providers, payers and, most importantly, patients.
