Specialist in magnetic stimulation Magstim has announced the launch of its new range of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) devices - Magstim DC Stimulators - developed in order to provide users with the maximum degree of flexibility and compatibility with existing Magstim magnetic stimulation devices.

tDCS involves applying weak electrical currents to the head, to generate an electromagnetic field which modulates the activity of brain neurons. tDCS is known to selectively modulate neuronal excitability and can be used in conjunction with fMRI, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) or centrally acting drugs. Emerging as a major research tool in its own right, tDCS is complementary to conventional TMS and is being investigated as a treatment for a variety of conditions such as stroke recovery, depression and migraine.

Magstim offers two tDCS devices, the DC Stimulator and DC Stimulator Plus. Both are portable, durable devices with clear displays and easy to use controls. The variety of settings available gives researchers the scope that they need to conduct their studies. Single continuous, Pulse, and customer defined stimulation modes are available on both devices, with the DC Stimulator Plus providing added Sine and Noise modes.
