Orion Health EHR Supports Almost Paperless Environment

Company News - Orion Health

Orion Health EHR solutions help hospitals in Scotland move toward paperless documentation and congratulates NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board on the opening of the new Stobhill hospital, which will provide outpatient clinics, day surgery and diagnostic services.

The hospital will provide a number of specialist services such as cardiology, renal dialysis and gynecology to over 400,000 patients per year. Core to the operation of the new hospital, which seeks to enhance the quality and speed of care delivered to patients, is the Orion Health Concerto Clinical Portal, which supports a virtually paperless environment.

Formed in 2006, the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board is the largest health board in the United Kingdom, employing over 44,000 staff, including 300 general practitioners, and delivers services through 35 major hospitals, dental services in more than 270 locations, 300 pharmacies, 10 specialised units and 50 health centers and clinics. Since inception, one of the first priorities for the health board was to make it easier for its tens of thousands of providers across dozens of facilities to access patient medical records electronically.

Glasgow and Clyde have implemented Orion Health EHR (electronic health record) solution using Concerto Portal technology to provide clinicians with a complete picture of a patients health care record, regardless of where the care was provided.

Scott Hendry, Glasgow and Clyde’s portal programme manager states the critical starting point for enabling an EHR was providing the ability to exchange medical data between a multitude of locations and providers. “At the time of selection, Concerto was the only solution that could provide a single unified view of the information retrieved from the multiplicity of systems that we have in Glasgow and Clyde. That made our decision easy. We currently send 2000 medical documents and 1000 referral letters daily.”

“People see the benefit in moving away from paper, but to work, a portal needs to be as effective and easy as a paper-based system. Luckily, the Concerto Portal is very intuitive, which plays a critical part in encouraging acceptance by the clinical staff,” continued Hendry.

Paul Viskovich, Orion Health’s President of North American and EMEA Operations notes the Glasgow & Clyde regional project is Scotland’s largest and most ambitious healthcare modernization program.  “Their dedication to providing better healthcare services for this large patient population is groundbreaking.”

Orion Health Concerto Clinical Portal is a single sign-on web-based clinical portal, Concerto Portal connects multiple hospital information systems to provide a unified view of patient data across all clinical applications. Using a graphical interface, Concerto Portal allows clinicians to present data to patients in order to better explain, inform and share health records securely and reliably. Improved access to information allows staff to make better clinical decisions leading to improved healthcare and better health outcomes.
