Phoenix Children’s Hospital selected Orion Health Rhapsody Integration Engine

Phoenix Children’s Hospital of Arizona has selected Orion Health Rhapsody Integration Engine to improve the performance and increase the reliability of data exchanged between clinical systems and the hospital’s electronic medical record (EMR) solution. The hospital saved more than USD$140,000 in licensing fees on the first interface it created, which linked data from medical devices monitoring patient’s vital signs and made that information available to clinicians within the hospital. The second interface to be created with Rhapsody will establish a bi-directional information exchange between the pharmacy application and EMR, which is expected to save the hospital an additional USD$180,000.

Rae Ann Harris, Manager of the Project Management Office and Systems Integration for Phoenix Children’s Hospital, says that incremental cost savings will add up quickly as Rhapsody is rolled out across the hospital’s systems and interfaces over the next year.

The decision to review its integration engine came as Phoenix Children’s Hospital realized that its current integration engine did not provide the flexibility or reliability to meet the goals of a comprehensive integrated clinical record.

Mike Biegen, Clinical Systems Analyst at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, said the selection process consisted of a request for proposal from three vendors. During the demonstration phase of the RFP, each vendor was given scenarios and sample transactions then asked to build a solution in the engine. None of the vendors knew the details of the scenarios in advance.

“Of the three vendors, Orion Health was the only one who could complete all of the scenarios during the meeting,” said Mr. Biegen. The selection group also noted Rhapsody’s impressive feature set and effortless ability to develop, test and migrate interfaces into production, which factored into the final decision.
