ConforMIS to install eRAD PACS for workflow management

Radiology News - PACS
eRAD announced today that ConforMIS, Inc., a privately held company that develops and commercializes minimally invasive orthopedic devices, has contracted to install eRAD PACS.

eRAD, an industry leader in workflow solutions through its native Web-based PACS and Teleradiology software platform, announced today that ConforMIS, Inc., a privately held company that develops and commercializes personalized, minimally invasive orthopedic devices, has contracted to install eRAD PACS.

Diagnostic images are acquired at any number of certified locations across the world and sent to ConforMIS for use in their proprietary "image-to-implant" process. The images are used in the custom manufacturing of personalized joint resurfacing implants that offer unique advantages versus traditional joint replacements. By starting with high density imaging data, ConforMIS creates patient-specific devices designed to achieve precise fit, preserve bone and cartilage, and minimize surgical trauma. As part of the production process, Images are acquired, stored and made available to radiologists, consulting physicians and ConforMIS engineers from any Web-enabled computer via eRAD's secure data facilities and web-based software platform.

The need for a Web-based PACS with advanced visualization capabilities such as integrated MPR and 3D was essential to ConforMIS' engineers. The system also needed to support a workflow which involves receiving and viewing DICOM images from around the world without the need for VPN's or dedicated secure networks. "eRAD is not just a PACS, it's an image management system and the configurability we saw in the eRAD product was essential to our decision. It will enable us to automate many of the steps required in our workflow processes which involve physicians, engineers, and staff in facilities all over the world," said Ray Weatherby, Director of Imaging and CAD Engineering for ConforMIS.
