Background:

Hospitals increasingly are looking for technology solutions to help them achieve the Meaningful Use requirements of the HITECH Act while also having a positive impact on both physician satisfaction and patient care. The mobile device has emerged as a critical tool for doctors looking to easily access patient data – anytime, anywhere.

Mobile technologies also have become more important due to the distributed nature of medicine; physicians increasingly work with multiple hospitals, and patients leverage specialists from numerous healthcare providers. Furthermore, with the advent of ARRA, technologies like computerized physician order entry ( CPOE ) have become major criteria for securing government stimulus funds, thus increasing the opportunity for mobile devices in healthcare.
