As a leading provider of medical imaging systems and healthcare IT solutions, Carestream Health, Inc., plans to showcase both new and enhanced versions of its systems at RSNA 2007. The company will demonstrate new features for its KODAK CARESTREAM RIS/PACS platform and will debut two new single-cassette computed radiography systems: KODAK DIRECTVIEW Classic and Elite CR Systems. It will also showcase its newest DR systems and its portfolio of digital imaging solutions for mammography. With its broad portfolio, Carestream Health offers solutions for information management, data storage, workflow management, advanced visualization, radiography and women's imaging.

PACS

The latest KODAK CARESTREAM PACS delivers exceptional workflow management in single and multi-site environments. Image fusion, orthopaedic surgical templating, 3-D imaging and advanced cardiac features are optional integrated applications. Dynamic streaming capabilities expedite the delivery of images to on-site and remote clinicians. The company also demonstrated the newest generation of its KODAK CARESTREAM Digital Dashboard, which provides administrators with a convenient way to monitor equipment performance, storage utilization and user volumes for CARESTREAM PACS, RIS and Information Management Solutions. A stoplight graphic display gives immediate feedback regarding the status of any monitored device. The dashboard also makes it easy to track the number of concurrent users for a device, the number of read and unread imaging studies, as well as the status of other tasks.

KODAK CARESTREAM PACS software from Carestream Health Inc., offers a virtual desktop environment that allows any application, including 3D processing, to be delivered to any desktop inside or outside the organization. The latest CARESTREAM PACS platform delivers native real-time 2-D and 3-D capabilities including MIP (maximum intensity projection), MinIP (minimum intensity projection), MPR (multiplanar reconstruction), volume rendering, tissue definition and vessel tracking functionality. The platform's dynamic streaming capabilities reduces the need for large bandwidth network connections, even for viewing of 3D, cardiac CT and other extremely large image files.

KODAK CARESTREAM PACS also offers integrated Siemens Medical Solutions' FUSION7DTM Software that enhances visualization of cancerous tumors and lesions. Image fusion software creates a composite image by overlaying image data from PET, CT, SPECT and MR systems so that oncologists have better visualization of anatomic and metabolic information and can more confidently assess tumor volumes and disease progression. Siemens' FUSION7D software provides advanced visualization tools and registration capabilities that govern how the images are overlaid.

Health Informatics (RIS)

Carestream Health debuted its latest generation of CARESTREAM RIS and demonstrated its new KODAK CARESTREAM RIS Standard Configuration. The company's newest RIS platform delivers workflow enhancements, expanded capabilities for voice recognition and mammography functionality as well as other new features. The virtual desktop offers role-based profiles that follow the user and new GUI functionality that streamlines workflow by expediting tasks and settings. The standard configuration version of CARESTREAM RIS is a fully featured solution that equips small to medium-sized hospitals with increased productivity, more efficient patient scheduling and exam workflow and comprehensive reporting capabilities. This affordable RIS also delivers a rapid, cost-effective implementation. An optional mammography module includes specialized scheduling, patient communication and reporting capabilities. The RIS system's open architecture is highly scalable and supports Web-based user access.

Data storage & archiving

Carestream Health's newest CARESTREAM PACS platform supports workflow GRID computing, which facilitates storage and retrieval of information throughout an enterprise. Workflow grid computing increases the availability and redundancy of a multi-site system and provides efficient management of distributed storage systems and rapid delivery of archived data to any review location. This workflow GRID technology can provide synchronized global worklist and reporting to all sites, while allowing each site to operate independently of the network or centralized server when necessary. Business continuity is expedited by supporting access from a secondary data center if the primary data center experiences equipment failure or a natural disaster. Cost efficiencies can be achieved through the sharing of storage resources, with flexible allocation that can be adjusted to match the changing needs of each facility.

DIRECTVIEW CR

Carestream Health debuted two new single-cassette computed radiography systems: KODAK DIRECTVIEW Classic and Elite CR Systems. These compact, floor standing systems support all adult and pediatric general radiography exams, as well as 35 x 84 cm long-length imaging for scoliosis and extremity exams and 15 x 30 cm dental panoramic imaging. These CR platforms also support mammographic imaging using specialized cassettes and screens in regions where this capability is approved for clinical use. They also offer a modular design, are significantly smaller than other DIRECTVIEW single-cassette systems and incorporate the latest generation of CR software from Carestream Health. The Classic and Elite CR systems are designed for widespread use at healthcare facilities including hospitals and diagnostic imaging centers as well as multi-specialty clinics and private practices. The company also showed its new KODAK DIRECTVIEW DR 9500, which has a ceiling-mounted U-arm that contains both a tube and detector to deliver unprecedented mobility and operational flexibility. This system easily moves around the patient to facilitate patient positioning and to enhance technologist convenience and productivity. It is ideal for a wide variety of general radiography procedures and offers enhanced speed and comfort to patients with limited mobility.

Women's imaging

Carestream Health Inc., showed at RSNA its innovative portfolio of digital mammography solutions including:

  • The KODAK DIRECTVIEW CR Mammography Feature that adds mammography applications to its CR platforms along with a CAD solution (both works-in-progress in the U.S.) Images from the CR platform are being output onto high-resolution radiographic film with a new KODAK DRYVIEW 6800 laser imager.
  • A digitizer to improve workflow efficiency at sites with digital mammography systems that features automatic scanning of up to 50 films without operator intervention; automatic identification and orientation of screening images; automatic retrieval of patient data from RIS systems; and a bar code scanner and touch screen.
  • Multi-modality breast imaging workstations that provide high-resolution display of mammography and general radiology imaging exams on 5-megapixel monitors. The company demonstrated use of its workstation with integrated CONFIRMA CADSTREAM software for breast MRI exams and CEDARA B-CAD software for breast ultrasound exams to facilitate the reading and interpretation of CAD results, along with viewing of original breast exams.
  • Mammography modules for CARESTREAM PACS and CARESTREAM RIS that include special image viewing tools for radiologists as well as features to help automate and personalize patient communication and simplify preparation of reports required for MQSA certification.
  • CARESTREAM Information Management Solutions that provide rapid access and automatic, intelligent clinical information lifecycle management for the large data sets associated with mammography exams. Storage of data in a patient-centric manner facilitates preservation and access to information while cost-effective pricing structures, including a Carestream Health-hosted service offering, accommodate the financial needs of mammography centers.
