TeraRecon Unveils iNtuitionCLOUD™ Interoperability at RSNA 2011
| Medical Conferences News - RSNA 2011 |
TeraRecon, Inc. announced key enhancements to iNtuitionCLOUD™ – the company’s flagship iNtuition™ solution in the form of an Internet-based service, to facilitate interoperability and integration with informatics workflow, at the RSNA 2011.
TeraRecon, Inc., a global provider of advanced visualization and decision support solutions, today announced key enhancements to iNtuitionCLOUD™ – the company’s flagship iNtuition™ solution in the form of an Internet-based service, to facilitate interoperability and integration with informatics workflow, at the 2011 Radiological Society of North America ( RSNA 2011 ) meeting at McCormick Place, Chicago, IL (Booth 2833, South Building, Hall A).
“iNtuitionCLOUD was first introduced in mid-2010 with support for ad-hoc drag-and-drop uploads via the iNtuition Uploader™,” said TeraRecon president & chief executive officer, Robert Taylor, Ph.D. “Since then, the service has enjoyed phenomenal success, with exponential growth in usage every quarter, and over 2,400 active accounts created to date. This rapid pace of adoption has powered a process of demand-driven innovation which has led to the new family of interoperability features available with iNtuitionCLOUD today.”
Enhancements to the AquariusGATE DICOM Router mean it is now possible to automatically relay DICOM data to iNtuitionCLOUD, with encryption, and with automatic anonymization if required. That data can then be processed in interactive real-time, with any iNtuition tool delivered via a web browser from the cloud, and derived results can be relayed back to the originating site or any other destination via TeraRecon’s secure SSL “Reverse Upload” technology, which enables encrypted tunneling back from the cloud to an in-house TeraRecon server which decrypts the data, and relays it via DICOM to PACS or other in-house informatics systems.
Front-end integration is also now supported, with iNtuitionCLOUD Launcher™ technology, which inherits existing TeraRecon interfaces to PACS, RIS or Voice Recognition systems, and facilitates a launch of an iNtuitionCLOUD session in a browser, in context, and without ever requiring iNtuition Client software to be installed on the PACS reading station. Such browser-based access to iNtuition tools greatly simplifies enterprise IT management, since no iNtuition software update, automatic or manual, ever needs to be applied on the client machine.
“With these new innovations, it is now possible to completely deploy iNtuition as a CLOUD-based managed service with nothing more than a simple, virtualizable AquariusGATE server on-site, to relay data to and from the Cloud” said Dr. Taylor. “We now have high-volume facilities relying on such Cloud-based operation for their advanced visualization with great success, and we believe the technology is still far from realizing its full potential.”
iNtuitionCLOUD is now proven for over 18 months of continuous operation without incident or downtime, across a global grid of datacenters in the Americas, Europe and Asia. iNtuitionCLOUD leverages completely self-contained technology which can be duplicated readily by any healthcare provider wishing to deploy a “Private Cloud” internal to their own enterprise. The public iNtuitionCLOUD server demonstrates and proves the viability of the technology, and facilitates cost-free evaluation of the solution prior to purchase, or local deployment.
“The avoidance of commercial ‘Web Services’ such as Amazon or Google was a conscious decision carefully taken, for a number of key reasons,” said Dr. Taylor. “Not least, for Protected Health Information, such services are questionable, due to the uncertainty about where uploaded data may be relayed, the impracticality of imposing such geographic constraints, and the difficulty of negotiating appropriate contractual provisions to protect privacy with such large corporations inexperienced in healthcare. And perhaps equally important, iNtuitionCLOUD’s role in Private Clouds, through the addition of a Virtual Client Concentrator to a core iNtuition installation, is at least as important as the public, internet-based service, and we needed to ensure that the technology could be fully controlled and managed by our customers deploying private clouds, without reliance on third party web services that would increase costs, and introduce legal and regulatory barriers that may be impossible to overcome.”
Since its inception, iNtuitionCLOUD has demonstrated value across a wide range of applications:
- Cost-effective Image Sharing, removing the need for patient CDs
- Training programs and distance learning
- Proof of principle and evaluation prior to deployment of a Private Cloud
- Secure import of CDs
- Affordable access for low-volume facilities and individual physicians
- Co-operation between remote sites for research or consultation
- Direct replacement of in-house deployments for advanced visualization
