Conduco Move in to RTLS Technology
| Healthcare IT News |
Conduco PLC, the Manchester based software development company, formerly known as Smart ID, is launching innovative Real Time Locating Systems ( RTLS ) technology to supply to the healthcare sector.
David Nicholls, Managing Director of Conduco, said that the new initiative into RTLS came about after we completed some intensive research on real time tracking devices and what they could be used for, and realised that, with the right technology, they were a perfect solution to driving cost and risk out of NHS operations.
They have engaged with numerous NHS Trusts and have identified a clear business case around the overstock of expensive and portable medical equipment. As it can be very difficult for a Trust to easily locate equipment, we believe with RTLS deployed, equipment inventories can be reduced by around 20 per cent. This really is a very significant cost saving.
In addition, typically 20 per cent of devices used within the NHS are not maintained on time, as they cannot be easily located within the hospital when routine maintenance is required or critical safety alerts are issued.
There is clearly a gap in the market for a reliable and affordable solution to this problem and we feel our systems fit the bill perfectly.
Using RFID technology, the system can locate key medical devices at crucial times, improving patient care and allowing routine maintenance to take place. Equipment loss is also reduced and staff productivity is increased. The solution can also be used to locate people – for example if you need to locate a consultant with a specific skill in an emergency.
“In addition to our wireless solutions, we’ll also be using infrared technology which is significantly less expensive and more accurate as it provides room level location.”
