Mobiles Bad For Children
Mobiles Bad For Children
| Radiology News - Radiology |
Reasons why it is a bad idea for children to own a mobile phone at their tender age.
With technology improving all the time, more and more people are starting to use mobile phones. In fact, some children even have mobile phones. But it is a bad idea for children to own a mobile phone, and here are a few of those reasons:
Not Mature Enough
The bottom line is that children are not yet old enough to need or even use a cell phone. Even though a parent may think that their child will need it for an emergency, there's really no good reason to give a child such a device. Children can't drive yet, and I don't really think that a 6 year old is going to be going around town by themselves. If a 9 or 10 year old is wondering around with their friends, then that is the parent's fault for lacking responsibility. A person only really needs a cell phone when they are going to be off by themselves, for example, when they get a car. This way they can let people know where they are and be ready in case of any emergencies, whether it is a car wreck, a health problem, or something else. Children are just too young to need a mobile phone.
Cost
After seeing how children don't need a mobile phone, giving them one anyway is just a waste of money. Mobile phones can cost a lot and need to be cared for properly. Also, mobile phone plans can be expensive, even with a "family plan". The money that is being spent on a child's mobile phone bill could be put to a better use - such as their future college education!
Radiation
There are several studies that have been performed that show that the wireless signals that are put off by mobile phones can be harmful. This radiation is bad for anybody, especially children since they are still growing. If you just use common sense you can see how it is a bad idea for a child to be holding a device emitting and receiving signals and radiation. This harmful radiation can cause tumors, such as in the brain from talking on the phone.
Too Much, Too Young
By giving a child a mobile phone, you are making them grow up too fast. Who are they going to call? Barney? Chances are they see their friends enough throughout the week, whether it be at preschool or grade school. Also, mobile phones have many features that a child should not have unrestricted access to, such as the internet. Children will also not completely understand how to deal with unknown callers or texters, such as "spammers" or telemarketers.
Children are too young to need mobile phones - it is a very bad idea to give them one. Until they are going around on their own, have a car, or are involved in many activities that they go to on their own, they don't need a mobile phone.
