Springfield Radiologists & CIRA Combine Practices

Radiology News - Radiology

Central Illinois Radiological Associates and Springfield Radiologists S.C., which provides radiology services to St. John's Hospital in Springfield, have merged, creating the largest private practice group of radiologists in Illinois, the group announced.

The merger will enhance the medical care provided to patients in the region by leveraging the clinical expertise and resources of the two organizations, the news release said.

"This is a very exciting time for medicine and CIRA, said Gregory Hill, CEO of CIRA. "The merger of these two radiology groups gives CIRA the ability to provide exceptional care to our patients and provide requesting physicians with the newest technology and research anywhere in the country."

"This new partnership will lead to greater efficiencies in our care delivery system and provide an environment where best practices can be shared more readily," said Dr. Scott Long, president of Springfield Radiologists, in the release.

The services provided by CIRA physicians include diagnostic imaging using CT, PET, MRI and ultrasound technology; and interventional radiology in which physicians implement the latest advances in technology to offer patients minimally invasive treatments for a wide variety of conditions. One subspecialty deals in treating stroke patients through advances in neuroradiology and neurointerventional surgery.

CIRA will serve 15 area hospitals, including Methodist Medical Center, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center and Proctor Hospital in Peoria and St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Others are Cottage Hospital and OSF St. Mary's Hospital in Galesburg; Graham Hospital in Canton (starting next August); Kewanee Hospital; Ottawa Regional Hospital & Healthcare Center; OSF St. James -- John Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac; Pana Community Hospital; Pekin Hospital; Perry Memorial Hospital, Princeton; Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee; and St. Francis Hospital, Litchfield.
