Radiology X-rays Stored Electronically at Jersey Hospital

X-rays Stored Electronically at Jersey Hospital

Radiology News - Radiology

radiologyPatient X-rays by the health department are being stored electronically in what it described as the first move towards making all medical records digital.

The department said it was a step towards full electronic patient records, including prescriptions, and operating theatre management.

The first digital X-rays were made in the General Hospital's Radiology Department in February.
The hospital said the system allowed rapid access to information.

The move, using a Picture Archiving Communication System ( PACS ), removes the need for X-ray film.

Dr Chris Hare, a consultant radiologist, said: "Patients being seen in hospital clinics no longer have to wait for films to be processed and printed.

"Digital storage means there is no possibility of losing an image and, if needed, many doctors will be able to view the image at the same time."
