Sectra MicroDose Mammography Receives First Approval in North America
| Company News - Sectra |
Canadian healthcare providers can now offer women mammography with the market’s lowest radiation dose. This is thanks to the authority Health Canada’s approval of the Swedish IT and medical technology company Sectra’s full field digital mammography system, Sectra MicroDose Mammography.
Patient dose is high on the agenda in the radiology community. With superior image quality, Sectra MicroDose Mammography[1] generates by far the lowest dose of radiation of all systems offered on the market. Already today, Sectra MicroDose contributes to reducing radiation doses in 18 European countries, as well as in Australia and New Zealand. The Sectra MicroDose solution is used in most major mammography screening programs in Europe.
Canadian mammography clinics have just begun to replace their analog mammography system with digital ones, making this a growing market. In addition to reduction of radiation dose levels, this conversion will bring such benefits as efficient workflows, better ergonomics and increased collaboration possibilities between clinics. For Sectra, Canadian customers will also represent important references prior to the upcoming launch of MicroDose Mammography in the US.
“This is the first and very important approval for MicroDose in the North American market,” says Jesper Söderqvist. “The next step is the FDA -approval that would mean that mammography clinics throughout the US will also have the possibility to offer women mammography examination with the lowest possible dose.”
Sectra MicroDose Mammography will be sold in Canada by Sectra ’s partner Xtron Imaging Inc., a leading provider of diagnostic imaging and mammography solutions.
