City Hospital in Birmingham Upgrades to 1.5T with Avanto System

Company News - Siemens Healthcare

New MRI to deliver faster and more complex imaging.

City Hospital in Birmingham has extended its range of imaging services and now offers faster and more streamlined MRI examinations following the installation of a MAGNETOMR Avanto 1.5 Tesla system from Siemens Healthcare. The hospital, part of Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, upgraded its previous Siemens system to provide a refreshed, state-of-the-art service.

The Avanto combines fast image acquisition with a dramatic reduction in acoustic noise and delivers high quality images on an easy-to-use platform. City Hospital in Birmingham is employing the system's versatility for a range of general examinations plus peripheral angiography scans are also being offered to patients for the first time along with Diffusion Weighted Imaging.

New syngoR software applications are assisting workflow.  syngo Inline Technology enables staff to perform certain processing steps during the image reconstruction stage and display them immediately to speed up the examination process.  The syngo BLADE application acquires multiple low resolution data sets and combines them to make one motion free, high quality image.  This provides clear images in all slice orientations and body regions such as the head, spine, liver or knee.

"We have noticed a huge difference in our MRI service since the installation of the Avanto," said Sarah Osborn, Superintendent Radiographer CT / MRI at City Hospital in Birmingham.  "Aside from a range of new scanning options, we also have the flexibility to carry out faster or more complex examinations depending on what we need for a particular patient.  The system's clean, bright and modern appearance is another bonus and creates a great environment."

"The power and simplicity of the Avanto helps to create a more streamlined image acquisition and reporting process," said Mark Hall, Regional Sales Manager at Siemens Healthcare.  "This has greatly improved the imaging service at City Hospital in Birmingham.  The system has already extended the number of services available and plans to introduce breast and cardiac services mean that the MRI will continue to deliver benefits to the Trust."
