Siemens radiotherapy solutions delivered to new Northern Centre for Cancer Care

Company News - Siemens Healthcare

The Northern Centre for Cancer Care has recently taken delivery of one of its ONCOR Expression linear accelerators with MVision (TM) Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) from Siemens.

"The new Northern Centre for Cancer Care in Newcastle has recently taken delivery of one of its ONCOR Expression linear accelerators with MVision (TM) Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) from Siemens. The delivery is part of an overall transformation of the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to bring hospital services together and improve quality of care. The linear accelerator will begin treating patients when the new centre opens in August 2008.

The ONCOR Expression is one of two systems to be installed at the new centre as part of an order that includes a range of Siemens solutions for diagnosis, treatment and care in oncology. The ONCOR Expression is the first linear accelerator to come standard with MVision (TM) Megavoltage Cone Beam Imaging Package and provides fully integrated 3D and 4D IGRT. The system will allow clinicians to provide an adaptable radiation therapy treatment programme, ensuring that tumours are targeted accurately according to each patient.

Two ONCOR Impression accelerators have also been ordered. The Impression systems are a cost-effective and flexible radiotherapy solution with a range of optional upgrades for patient-focused radiotherapy. One of the Impression accelerators has the UK's first large bore CTVision IGRT solution, offering the gold standard in Kilovoltage imaging. The ONCOR systems also join a Siemens SOMATOM Sensation Open CT Simulator which offers full 4D imaging capabilities as well as accompanying syngo RT workstations.

"The ONCOR range of linear accelerators is designed to provide a flexible approach to radiotherapy procedures, whilst ensuring that patient care is the top priority," states Andy Jeffery, Radiotherapy Sales Manager at Siemens. "With superior precision, reliability and ease of use, the new radiotherapy equipment from Siemens will enhance the standard of care at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care and ensure a first class approach to oncology treatment into the future."
