Siemens Healthcare system assists with earlier diagnosis and condition planning

Newham University Hospital NHS Trust has recently installed a SymbiaR S dual head SPECT system from Siemens Healthcare to enable the rapid diagnosis of disease states.  The new equipment delivers superb image quality allowing the department to gain detailed patient scans for better interpretation and diagnosis.

Newham University Hospital NHS Trust is a 379 bed Acute NHS Trust based at Newham General Hospital in Plaistow.  It serves over 240,000 people in the region as well as providing services to residents of Redbridge, Waltham Forest, Barking and Havering, City and Hackney and Tower Hamlets.

The Symbia S system combines state-of-the-art image quality with workflow automation so that the department can handle high patient throughput.  The system is equipped with a High Definition detector, which provides a faster scan acquisition time with improved contrast resolution and lesion detection.  The open and friendly system is easy-to-use with a reclining patient position, which minimises motion artifacts for improved image quality.  This helps increase patient comfort, improving the service and overall experience.  It is also compact with a small footprint.

"The Symbia S SPECT system is a great addition to the department.  Not only do we get additional functionality from this system, which enables us to perform more detailed scans and reduces the amount of retakes we have to do, but it is also very user friendly," said Udesha Davids, Radiology Business Manager at Newham University Hospital NHS Trust.  "Most importantly however, it has allowed us to focus more on the patients to help improve their experience.  We have already had feedback from repeat patients who have felt their experience has improved with the more comfortable reclining seat position and with the reliability of the system."

"The installation of the Symbia S SPECT system into Newham University Hospital NHS Trust has enabled the department to focus on earlier detection and the forward management of diseases such as cancer," said Clive West, Regional Sales Manager at Siemens Healthcare.  "By combining state-of-the-art image quality with workflow automation, the hospital is able to handle higher patient volumes with ease.  The functionality of the system allows the radiology department to future proof itself enabling it to upgrade its systems easily to continue to improve its offering to patients in the East London area."
