RSNA R&E Awards Siemens Grants to Emerging Leaders in Radiology Research

Company News - Siemens Healthcare

RSNA Research & Education awarded the 2010 Siemens Healthcare / RSNA grants to two of the industry’s emerging leaders in radiology research.

The Radiological Society of North America ( RSNA ) Research & Education (R&E) Foundation has awarded the 2010 Siemens Healthcare/RSNA grants to two of the industry’s emerging leaders in radiology research. The grants are made possible by Siemens’ support of the RSNA R&E Foundation.

Hersh Chandarana, MD, of the New York University School of Medicine, has been awarded the Siemens Healthcare/RSNA Research Scholar Grant, to study liver metastases, which are the main cause of death for patients with colon cancer. His study will use contrast enhanced dual energy CT to assess and predict response for patients undergoing chemotherapy. Designed for emerging leaders in radiology research, this career development award develops young faculty into independent investigators and prepares them for NIH funding. The grant award is $75,000 per year for a two-year study.

James Costello, MD, PhD, of Emory University, has been awarded the Siemens Healthcare/RSNA Research Fellow Grant to focus on the increased demand for lung transplant due to chronic lung disease. His project will look to reduce the need for multiple expensive, time-consuming and invasive tests that require hospital admission by developing a rapid outpatient MRI examination for pre- and post- lung transplant patients. This grant allows young investigators protected time to apply research techniques in a scientific investigation and prepare for a research career. The grant award is $50,000 for a one-year study.
