Siemens Healthcare Showcases its Latest Solutions at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2011

Company News - Siemens Healthcare

Siemens Healthcare has presented its latest innovations for imaging and diagnostics at the European Congress of Radiology ( ECR 2011 ).

Highlights included the BiographT mMR, which is the world's first integrated whole-body molecular MR with simultaneous data acquisition technology, and two new radiography systems: the MULTIX Select DR and the Mobilett Mira. Siemens also showcased its image management and diagnostic software syngoR.via,
which provides advanced visualisation tools and automated processes leading to faster reading times.

The Biograph mMR has the potential to provide new diagnostic opportunities in neurology, oncology, and cardiology as well as opening up new opportunities for research, such as the development of new biomarkers or therapeutic approaches. It comprises a 3-Tesla magnetic resonance (MR) scanner and an integrated positron emission tomography (PET) detection system, making it possible to simultaneously capture MR and PET data with a whole-body system for the first time. While MR provides intricate morphological and functional details in human tissue, PET goes further to investigate the human body at the level of cellular activity and metabolism.

"As the first whole-body system with the capability of simultaneously capturing MR and PET data the Biograph mMR represents a new dimension in diagnostic imaging to capture tissue and cellular data from inside the human body," states Lawrence Foulsham, Molecular Imaging Product Manager at Siemens Healthcare. "It is a truly hybrid imaging information solution that makes obtaining information much more efficient and allow clinicians to gain a better understanding of a disease and its progression."

The MULTIX Select DR is an entry-level X-ray system that facilitates cost-effective access to Digital Radiography. Suitable for virtually all clinical radiography applications and easy-to-use, the system has been particularly designed for doctors in private practices and small to medium-sized hospitals.

The Mobilett Mira is Siemens' first mobile digital X-ray system with a wireless detector. It sends image data via W-LAN to an integrated imaging unit and facilitates examinations of patients with limited mobility. The system's new swivel arm can also be moved horizontally up to 90 degrees to increase its ease-of-use.

syngo.via, Siemens' imaging software for multimodality reading of clinical cases, has been installed in more than 300 hospitals worldwide. Its advanced visualisation tools and automated processes helps increase reading efficiency across multiple specialties including oncology, cardiology and neurology.

Siemens also announced the new version of its syngo Embolisation Guidance imaging software to simplify and accelerate the minimally invasive embolisation of benign tumours such as myomas. The new version can speed up interventions, meaning both contrast medium and dose can be reduced.
