Siemens to showcase solutions for driving productivity and realising process efficiencies in healthcare at the BNMS, from April 26-28, 2010

Solutions for driving productivity and realising process efficiencies in healthcare will be showcased at the Siemens stand at this year’s Annual Meeting of the British Nuclear Medicine Society ( BNMS ). From 26 - 28 April at Harrogate International Centre, visitors to stand 2 will learn how imaging technology and new software innovations are transforming the diagnostic environment.
Hybrid systems enable hospitals to benefit from two modalities while saving the time, space and costs associated with installing two separate units. In response to this and the evolving use of PET•CT for its ability to provide both functional and anatomical information, Siemens developed the Biograph mCT, the world’s first molecular CT. The mCT integrates the first advanced HD•PET platform with Adaptive Spiral CT and provides fast, high quality images at low dose, plus the ability to share PET and CT services for better return on investment.
Demonstrations of Siemens’ latest software solution, syngo.via will be available to stand visitors. A client-server and advanced visualisation software platform for PET•CT multi-modality applications, syngo.via defines a new standard and experience in PET and CT reading. It provides a faster and easier way to read images, automatically preparing cases for review, networking the images for collaboration, even outside the hospital boundary, plus grows with your needs into the future.
“Image acquisition technology has made huge progress in recent years and syngo.via is bringing image review and management software to the same level of efficiency,” said Lawrence Foulsham, Product Manager for Molecular Imaging and Oncology at Siemens Healthcare. “As hospitals deal with a challenging economy and greater patient numbers, combined modalities and accompanying software will help keep productivity high and help simplify processes.”
Models will also be on display of the Symbia T TruePoint SPECT•CT, combining variable angle dual detector SPECT with a 2-slice CT for rapid, accurate attenuation correction and anatomical mapping plus the Eclipse HP Cyclotron for radioisotope production.
Also on the stand will be representatives from PETNET Solutions, the biomarker distribution arm of Siemens Healthcare. PETNET Solutions has recently embarked upon a product development programme aimed at broadening the range of available PET radiopharmaceuticals in the UK.
“While FDG has been, and will remain, the primary tracer for most PET applications, it has been recognised for some time that different tracers are needed in clinical practice to complement it, especially for disease types which are not FDG-avid,” said Ian Brown, Commercial Manager for PETNET Solutions in the UK. “We hope that by increasing the range of available tracers, the well-established clinical and cost benefits of PET scanning will be applicable to wider groups of patients.”
