Siemens Healthcare 's Ysio wi-D x-ray systems enhance patient care in Portsmouth area

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust has installed a total of ten Ysio wi-D Digital Radiography (DR) systems from Siemens Healthcare. 

Queen Alexandra Hospital will support in and outpatient, adult, paediatric and emergency imaging needs with eight DR systems.  Nearby St Mary’s Hospital has installed one Ysio for general imaging and Hampshire Community Health Care’s Gosport War Memorial Hospital has also installed a system for community based imaging.

Already the speed of digital image delivery has reduced patient examination times from 12 to seven minutes.  This is helping the busy Queen Alexandra Hospital to see more patients during the working day, reducing waiting times and delivering faster care pathways.

The wireless flat panel detector increases examination versatility and reduces manual handling of patients.  Designed to be lightweight and with no wires, the detector can be positioned next to or under the patient out of bucky.  This is useful for the examination of immobile or paediatric patients and for trauma, chest and extremity work.

“The ability to review digital images instantly has greatly improved our efficiency as we no longer have to leave the examination room to process CR plates in the viewing area,” said Janine Hatch, Superintendent Radiographer at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust.  “Digital Radiography is assisting us in seeing more patients during the working day.  The Ysio wi-D also offers auto-positioning for most examinations and the wireless detector means there is more flexibility and less manual handling of patients.”
