Interventional imaging system from Siemens enhances scanning facilities in Swansea

Singleton Hospital in Swansea, part of the Abertwae Bro Morgannwg (ABM) University Health Board, has boosted its imaging facilities with the installation of an Artis zee Multipurpose interventional angiography system from Siemens Healthcare. 

Situated in the Radiology Department, the Artis zee is being used to support a wide range of imaging procedures and has the capability to support emergency angiographic studies, which may remove the need to transfer sick patients between sites for investigation.  The system routinely provides imaging for barium examinations and gastro-intestinal interventional work such as Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatographies (ERCPs).

The Artis zee's adjustable tableside control makes image acquisition easy as it enables simple manoeuvrability of the system's flexible and rotating high speed C-arm.  The flat detector provides high contrast resolution to improve accuracy in image-guided procedures at a significantly reduced radiation dose.

"We have only been using the Artis zee for a few months but have already seen that is a very good system and that its image quality and reliability is particularly high," said Shaun Davies, Superintendent Radiographer at Singleton Hospital.

"The Artis zee will greatly assist with image guided procedures at Singleton Hospital and it is pleasing to see that it is already being used for a range of examinations", said Darren Parker, Regional Sales Manager at Siemens Healthcare.  "We are also delighted that it is improving efficiency of the service and reducing the need for patients to travel between hospitals in the surrounding area."
