MAGNETOM Avanto from Siemens Healthcare increases scanning facilities

The Royal Oldham Hospital, part of Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, has upgraded its imaging department to offer patients quicker scanning times following the installation of a MAGNETOM Avanto 1.5 Tesla MRI from Siemens Healthcare .  The system replaces an old scanner and will increase the range of clinical applications the hospital can provide.

With the Avanto in place, patients living in Oldham will no longer have to make the journey to Rochdale Infirmary and Birch Hill Hospital or North Manchester General Hospital to receive advanced MRI scans.  The hospital expects up to 4,500 patients a year to benefit from the installation as it will be used for a range of examinations including general whole body scans, breast imaging, vascular imaging and potentially orthopaedic and neurological presentations.

"The Avanto is one of the world's leading systems in its class and our radiography staff have all commented that its speed will allow us to undertake more examinations," said Dr. Samy Jeyagopal, Site Lead for Radiology at The Royal Oldham Hospital.  "We are already increasing the number of patients scanned and the image quality is outstanding.  This means patients will receive a more accurate and quicker diagnosis, which will lead to faster treatment and follow up procedures."

The Royal Oldham Hospital has also installed an ACUSON S2000T ultrasound system from Siemens Healthcare for its superb imaging in musculoskeletal examinations.  An array of transducers have also been selected including a 9L4, 14L5, 14L-5 SP and an 18L6 HD.
