MAMMOMAT Inspirations to boost patient comfort and provide improved image quality
The University Hospital of North Tees, part of the North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, has ordered five static and four mobile MAMMOMAT Inspiration™ Full Field Digital Mammography systems from Siemens Healthcare. The static units are to be installed at the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton on Tees while the mobile units in trailers will travel to hospital sites in the surrounding areas. The first static unit has been installed in the breast screening unit with the remaining eight systems expected early this year.
The MAMMOMAT Inspiration simultaneously provides increased patient comfort and ease of operation for the mammographer plus high image quality typically helps to improve diagnosis accuracy. The breast screening unit at the University Hospital of North Tees will be one of the largest in the UK to go fully digital, with services expected to benefit from faster examinations and a series of more detailed images.
The systems will be fully connected to the Picture Archiving and Communication System ( PACS ) ensuring that all digital images can be accessed and evaluated from the main site. This will remove the need for the hospital to transport images and help improve efficiency by eliminating time wasted retrieving and displaying film-based images.
Two of the biopsy systems will each come equipped with the Inspiration’s unique MoodLight feature that emits soothing colours into the examination area to transform the diagnostic environment and enhance patient comfort. These colour tones can be personally selected by the user to change throughout the screening process to promote relaxation.
Project Manager for the expansion of breast screening services at the University Hospital of North Tees Carol Jackson said: "We were seeking a digital mammography system that would deliver high quality imaging and a more comfortable patient experience. We are delighted with our first Inspiration and look forward to receiving the additional systems early next year. With increased capacity we will be fully prepared to accommodate the expansion of breast services."
“The improved image quality and ease of operation, combined with the unique MoodLight feature of the Inspiration make it an excellent choice for breast screening services,” said Neil Lincoln, Regional Sales Manager at Siemens Healthcare . “The digital systems will improve efficiency and help more patients to comfortably be seen both at the University Hospital of North Tees and in the surrounding areas.”
