Advanced cardiology PACS from SoftLink installed at Mumbai's Nanavati Hospital
Mumbai's leading hospital Nanavati installed an advanced cardiology PACS from Pune's SoftLink International, replacing its eight-year-old standalone workstation solution procured from SoftLink. After the requirement analysis, Softlink deployed C-PACS solution connecting to cathlab with approximately one year of on-line storage on a high-end RAID L5 server for totally storage and security of patient images. The solution has also created a centralised archive for the entire department.
The electronic storage of patient images generated during an echocardiograph or catheterisation procedure in a networked digital archive is called Cardiology PACS (C-PACS). The DICOM- compliant digital patient images are stored, managed, transmitted and displayed across the network of the hospital and over web. The cardiologist can view the digital images on a cardiology workstation, which is composed of a display monitor and a central processing unit that is networked into PACS. The image server is connected directly to the cathlab and/or ECHO machine for receiving DICOM patient images, which are stored on the server with an on-line storage of about six months and can go up to a few years.
Said Dr Harish Mohanty, Medical Director, Nanavati Hospital, “The solution has enabled doctors to access patient studies from diagnostic review stations on the hospital's Local Area Network (LAN), and they are no longer required to visit cathlab for accessing patient studies" He further added, "Two networked enterprise review stations that are strategically placed to increase physicians' access to recent as well as the older images during patient interaction and consultation will result in improving the workflow as well as patient care in the cardiology department."
