Sorna Adds a New Interface and On-the-Fly Intelligent Encryption/Decryption to its DICOM CD/DVD Publishing Systems

Company News - Sorna

Sorna Corporation announces the addition of hassle-free, intelligent automated password encryption to its newest software version of eXpedo® , the workflow-intelligent operating software of its extensive family of automated DICOM CD/DVD publishing systems.

Reviewer Admin, Sorna's standalone operating software, also adds this encryption functionality in its software version 1.6.

Philips iSite® PACS customers can now add an eXpedo client plug-in to their workstation. This provides them with a seamless interface with any eXpedo CD/DVD publishing system Version 2.5 and higher. They can perform all the functions of creating custom CDs and DVDs as well as monitoring the status of these jobs from any iSite workstation.

All DICOM CDs/DVDs created by Sorna publishing systems will now open automatically on any PC running Microsoft Windows 2000 and higher for immediate display of images without the need for preinstalled operating system software.

eXpedo 2.7 utilizes the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm to create password-protected media. It offers the choice to users of assigning a unique password to each DICOM CD or DVD created, or assigning a unique single password to each recipient in its database, such as a specific hospital or a physician. The advantage of a designated password for each recipient is that when a CD/DVD create command is issued, eXpedo automatically associates the CD/DVD designee with its assigned password, and automatically encrypts the content of the DISC.

The advantage of auto-password recognition is substantial when quantities of DICOM CDs or DVDs are sent to the same facility. This eliminates the administrative time spent conveying DISC-specific passwords to the recipient, and also eliminates the potential for having the password sent in conjunction with the CD or DVD, which is a security compromise. eXpedo software also simplifies the process of changing passwords regularly and managing the process by authorized administrators.

eXpedo and Reviewer systems embed Sorna's DICOM viewer on every DICOM CD/DVD. When an encrypted DISC is detected, an immediate request for password is made. The entry of correct password activates on-the-fly decryption and display of the diagnostic images, radiology reports, and other content. With this unique feature, the recipient does not need to decrypt and transfer the contents of the DISC to a hard drive prior to viewing – creating a potentially dangerous security breach point.
