High Resolution Ultrasound for 'Foot-Drop' Issue

Radiology News

A recent study describes how High resolution ultrasound needs to be the imaging test of choice while, analysing patients suffering from "foot-drop" condition.

'Foot Drop' is a  neurologic condition. The incapacity to move the ankle and toes in the upward direction, resulting in intractable slapping of the foot while, walking or steping. Peroneal neuropathy is the cause for "Foot Drop". Its a common damage to a single nerve or nerve group of the lower extremity.
"Ultrasound is less expensive than EMG and MRI, it is painless, and as our study suggests, is highly effective for the evaluation of patients with foot drop," said Tom Grant, DO, lead author of the study.

He also said,  “Ultrasound should be considered as a first test in the evaluation of patients with foot drop. If the ultrasound is normal, then EMG and MRI should be performed.”
