Modern Applications for Uterine Ultrasound: AIUM

Radiology News

ultrasound scanModern applications for uterine ultrasound imaging to be featured at the 2010 American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine Convention.

With over 10 million women in the U.S. suffering from endometrial disorders like abnormal uterine bleeding or uterine fibroids, the 2010 American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine (AIUM) convention will feature specialized programs and product showcases highlighting imaging solutions available to better diagnose these conditions.

Cook Medical will feature its Goldstein SonoBiopsy Catheter, a uniquely designed device for diagnosing the cause of abnormal uterine bleeding. The device offers the ability to biopsy endometrial tissue during the same procedure, aiding the diagnosis and treatment process.

The AIUM convention will also feature several expert presentations on the use of uterine ultrasound imaging, such as sonohysterographs, in evaluating endometrial disorders such as abnormal uterine bleeding. On March 26, Dr. Steven Goldstein, the inventor of the Goldstein SonoBiopsy catheter, Dr. James Shwayder and Dr. Peter Doubilet will participate in the session “Clinical applications of uterine ultrasound 2010.” This session will provide attendees with up-to-date information on the intricacies of using sonographic evaluation for endometrial disorders and will touch on best practices for diagnosing, treating and managing these conditions.

“It is important for physicians to have the most up-to-date information on treatment and diagnostic options for prevalent conditions impacting their patients. With millions of women currently suffering from endometrial disorders, such as abnormal uterine bleeding, the sessions being held at AIUM will provide vital information to assist physicians seeking the best available options for their patients, ensuring faster, more effective relief from these conditions,” said Christina Anné, vice president of Cook’s Women’s Health business unit.

The AIUM Annual Convention is a premier event devoted entirely to the professional development and advancement of diagnostic ultrasound in medicine. The 2010 curriculum consists of courses and sessions customized to reflect developing topics in each branch of medical ultrasound, as represented by the AIUM's 15 Communities of Practice.
