Revolutionary radiotherapy treatment device to be exhibited and featured in a new technology symposium at the 10th annual meeting of the Asia-Oceania Congress of Medical Physics
Varian Medical Systems , Inc., the world's leading manufacturer of medical technology for treating cancer with radiotherapy and radiosurgery, is introducing its new TrueBeam™ medical linear accelerator for the first time to clinicians in Asia at the 10th annual meeting of the Asia-Oceania Congress of Medical Physics (AOCMP) taking place in Taipei, Taiwan, October 15-17.
The TrueBeam system, which was designed from the ground up to treat a moving target with unprecedented speed and accuracy, features a multitude of technical innovations to dynamically synchronize imaging, patient positioning, motion management, and treatment delivery. With its High Intensity Mode, TrueBeam can deliver doses at up to 2400 monitor units per minute, more than twice as fast as any other machine for either radiotherapy or radiosurgery.
Joseph Ting, PhD, chief medical physicist at the MIMA Cancer Center in Melbourne, Florida, will make a presentation about the TrueBeam system in a "New Technology Symposium" on Saturday, October 16 as part of the meeting's scientific program. The MIMA Cancer Center was among the first cancer treatment centers in the U.S. to treat patients using a TrueBeam system. Dr. Ting's talk will focus on the TrueBeam system's High Intensity Mode, which significantly reduces treatment time, making some treatments feasible that weren't possible before.
" Varian Medical Systems is committed to investing in Asia, and working with clinicians to meet the needs of cancer patients throughout the region," said Thomas P. Duffy, Varian Medical Systems ' vice president of sales and marketing for the Asia Pacific region. "Our new TrueBeam offering, optimized for complex radiosurgical treatments, complements the UNIQUE™ linear accelerator we introduced in Asia earlier this year, the world's first single-energy radiotherapy system with image-guidance and RapidArc® treatment capabilities. Our emphasis is on developing tools for faster, more efficient, more precise cancer treatment, and on offering our customers around the world the widest possible spectrum of solutions to match each customer's clinical priorities, patient mix, and budget."
